Early warning: 24th September, Stultiloquentia will be visiting the UK, so I will be hosting another tea party meetup thing, around 2pm-6pm. Quinara and such_heights and Nanila will also be there - anyone else want to join us?

It is likely to involve fannishness, knitting, vid-watching, general geekery and much squee. Also cakes, because cakes are delicious. My place is near Clapham Junction, and has one flight of stairs so is not wheelchair-accessible

Just a quick note for anyone who's been boggling at the latest in the News of the World phone-hacking scandal. NotW's boss Rupert Murdoch is trying to take over BSkyB and the government wants to let him. 38 Degrees will hand in a petition tomorrow, which you can find at their site: No time to give Murdoch more power.

I'm looking for a new flatmate in Brighton. Details in my journal. Please pop by or pass it along if you're interested or know anyone who might be. Thanks!

[personal profile] fu is coming to visit London, so I will be hosting a tea party on June 25th. PM me for details if you'd like to join us.

Advance warning, since I forgot to mention it before: It is a first floor flat, and sadly there is no lift, so it's not really accessible to wheelchairs. If the weather's good, we can picnic in the park opposite.

Details in my journal. It would be great to meet more Dreamwidthers from the London area.

I'll be in Glasgow from Thursday 4 November until Sunday 7 November — are there any Glaswegians here who'd like to meet up for a drink or lunch or something?

(I should have cross-posted this before, but I just thought of it after logging out last night. The gathering will have started by now, but it lasts a few hours in all.)

Where's the Benefit? have the following info:

A (hopefully!) large group of disabled people will be protesting against the proposed benefits cuts outside the Tory Party conference tomorrow, Sunday 3rd October 2010. For details of where, times, etc, please see Disabled People Protest.

For those who can't go, there's also a virtual protest (with a Facebook page which I can't access): to replace your avatar with the campaign image (see icon for this post). "Cuts hurt when it's you that's bleeding". Fake blood will also be used in the physical protest in Birmingham.

For a long time, I have mourned the lack of a teleporter to enable me to go to [personal profile] synecdochic's knitting meetups.

Now, I have my own flat in London, so I am proposing a local version. Anyone who can travel or teleport to Clapham is welcome. PM me for the exact address and my phone number. It is sadly on the first floor and has no lift, only stairs. Parking is difficult, but it is 10 minutes' walk from Clapham Junction, or on various bus routes.

October 3rd, 2pm-5pm. I will provide some sort of food and drink. Let me know if you have any particular dietary requirements. Bring knitting, writing or other crafts.

Hi, anyone here from the South of England?
Saturday, August 14th, 2010 10:19 am
A few of us were planning an OTW meetup today, which has fallen through, but [personal profile] watersword, [personal profile] juliet and I had a great evening last night, and we were saying it would be good to do it more often, given that there are a fair number of us in and around London.

I'll be in London anyway on Saturday September 11th - does anyone want to meet up for coffee or drinks?

Does anyone know of a way to pre-pay for groceries, preferably online? I have a grant to cover expenses while I am traveling in the UK in August (yay research fellowships!), and they want receipts, understandably. I'm not thrilled at the thought of collecting a ton of little pieces of paper from Tesco's and Sainsbury's to turn into my bursar's office, and if I could just buy, like, a gift card before I go, that would be awesome. My Google searches are not helpful, but I have the sense the websites aren't, shall we say, au courant with reality.

Anyone following the general election news? Expecting a hung parliament? Hoping for a hung parliament? I thought it might be nice to have a discussion thread...

So, I was just thinking that I'd like to go out for pancakes tonight, and pondered briefly inviting some Dreamwidth folk out for it. Then, I realised that few of those in #dw, at least, were London based, so it was unlikely that I'd convince anyone to come and eat pancakes with me with just 3 hours before I planned to do it.

Then, I realised that in 2.5 months, it'll be Dreamwidth's first birthday and that's actually a reasonable amount of time in which to organise some kind of get-together. (I procrastinate easily, okay? It could well actually take me that long...)

Aaaanyway. Here's my proposition:

What: Dreamwidth Turns One party/meetup/thing
Where: London, UK
When: Friday April 30th 2010

ETA: this totally doesn't have to be the only UK meetup; I picked London because it's convenient for me, but if you want to organise another in another town/city then please, go ahead!

This poll is closed.

Did any other areas of the country get flash floods the other day, in between the hot weather? Newcastle had a morning of sunshine, an afternoon of thunderstorms (which brough part of the Metro to a halt), and then back to sunshine again.

Hi

Staff's/West Mid's border here - though I prefer to use Mercia, and have since long before it became fashionable again. :)

Also, figured I'd mention [community profile] the_midlands, since I've created it.

Hi! I'm John, [personal profile] john, and I live in Bristol. (Well, technically SoGlo, but nobody's really counting.

I was commenting to [personal profile] lolita that it would be nifty to have a Bristol Dreamwidth event. And by "Bristol", I mean dinner at Dynasty, which is one of the top 5 Chinese restaurants in the UK. (Google Map) It has street parking very close by, is only a couple of minutes from the end of the M32, and is within supereasy walking distance of Bristol Temple Meads. Also, it's really good.

So, anybody who's within striking distance of Bristol and fancies a meetup, drop a comment. And anybody who isn't really within striking distance, but fancies a roadtrip from elsewhere, drop a comment as well in case somebody near you wants to carshare!

Thoughts? Suggestions for bars afterwards? Concerns about dietary requirements? Anything else? Drop me a comment, or you can send me a DW message privately.

Hi, I'm new to the community. Nice to see people from my part of the world here! I'm posting from Northamptonshire.
Is there anyone else here in the East Midlands?

How many of us are in Manchester? I see there are two others? Might still be cool to have a meetup, even if it isn't open beta related...
