London bus checker app

London-centred question!

Which Android app (preferably free, but I'm not ruling out paying for it) would you recommend for bus checking? Next bus at a given stop, bus route, favourite stops, that kind of thing.

I'm fairly new to this "there's an app for that" business, and a bit stressed about phone security. I'm looking for an app that's easy to use, doesn't have too much information overload, ideally no ads.

The TfL website provides all this info, of course, but by the time it loads a page the bus has already come.

I see you have a recommendation already, but just in case that doesn't work out for you: I agree that the TfL website is generally terrible on mobile, but have you tried their Mobile Countdown page? It uses the same information as the Countdown displays at bus stops, and it lets you keep a list of favourite stops.

For bus routes I use a paper map: The Greater London Bus Map.

Inexcusably belated thank you! The mobile page proved to be fast enough to load, and the list of "My Stops" very handy. I've been using it for the past months with great success.

I'm a little out of date, not having lived in London for a little while now, but unless anything new and great has come out:

London Travel for pretty much all your London travel needs. Not a pretty UI, though. Free, no hideous permissions as far as I remember.

I also use something like London Bus Checker. I got the full-UK version without ads as the Amazon Free App Of The Day a while back. That link is for the London-Only one, and I think it's ad-supported. Not having used that I don't know how obtrusive the ads are.
It's... quite neat, but I don't know that I'd pay for it.

I've used Citymapper (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release) with some success -- it's not ideal for bus checking per se but quite good for how to get from A to B, knows the bus routes and timings, and so on.

(It also has a "how long would it take a rampaging giant green Android robot to get to where you're going" option which I find cute, but YMMV).
