So, I was just thinking that I'd like to go out for pancakes tonight, and pondered briefly inviting some Dreamwidth folk out for it. Then, I realised that few of those in #dw, at least, were London based, so it was unlikely that I'd convince anyone to come and eat pancakes with me with just 3 hours before I planned to do it.
Then, I realised that in 2.5 months, it'll be Dreamwidth's first birthday and that's actually a reasonable amount of time in which to organise some kind of get-together. (I procrastinate easily, okay? It could well actually take me that long...)
Aaaanyway. Here's my proposition:
What: Dreamwidth Turns One party/meetup/thing
Where: London, UK
When: Friday April 30th 2010
ETA: this totally doesn't have to be the only UK meetup; I picked London because it's convenient for me, but if you want to organise another in another town/city then please, go ahead!

Also, I had no clue this comm existed until it was in the weekly update. Am very happy now :D

This was a concept that we vaguely kicked around at one point, but never brought to fruition. Its time is overdue!

Sympathise entirely with those of you from up north; I once hailed from Manchester and found it difficult to get to London, &c. for meetups. That said, I only have the time to organise one, so I'm going with the city I live in ;-)
I won't feel like my foot has been trodden on if you or someone else wants to go ahead and organise a not-London meetup and will happily help you promote yours in a "if you can't make it to London, try this one!" sort of way :-)

but crap date :0
(I am the technical director of a big annual charity event which is on that day-evening-night so won't be able to attend, dammit!)
oh, wow - uhm..
I'm based in the Midlands so could only feasibly make a weekend meetup but I would love to do anything I can to help. do you need some webspace to help promote the event? some kind of html button... DW has taught me that if you want things to happen you gotta help MAKE them happen so tell me what you need and I'll supply to the best of my abilites - even if that's only pointing at exsisting web tools and saying doew *this* help at all...
I really would love to attend a DW meetup :)
Oh I came here via the latest DW newsletter. PLeasedtameetcha
Re: oh, wow - uhm..
If you can't make London, why not try and get a few Midlands/North people together?
Re: oh, wow - uhm..
twothree reasons:1 - I don't think there are enough DW'ers in the midlands are there?
2 - I have no idea how to gauge possible interest
3 - The only free places I can think to hold a public gathering are pubs / bars and that is in itself a barrier to entry for some people and I don't' want to exclude anyone !

Hm, I should get around to doing something more proactive with the planning thing soon...
